INDYCAR 2012

Postby grunf77 on Fri Feb 03, 2012 9:04 pm

I think it's about time

So what' new:
Car -new Dallara DW-12 named after late Dan Wheldon

Engines-new engine formula, 2.2-liter turbo V6 with a 12,000 RPM limit and 3 manufacturers: Lotus, Honda and Chevrolet

Lotus and Chevrolet have twin turbo, while Honda is single turbo (someone could explain pros and cons about that).

Lotus engine is rumored to be lighter than others, while Honda has problem with reliability (testing at Sebring).

There is issue with limited number of engines available, there are more teams/cars then expected so we'll how see it will that end.

Honda 10-12, Chevy 10-12, Lotus 5-7 engines, second number is absolute limit.

Listen, it was hard enough to drive those heavy old cars back then under normal circumstances, but with a crazed monkey clawing you at the same time, it becomes nearly impossible! http://www.timflock.com/jocko.htm

Well...I hadn't been paying attention since Weldon's crash. This is a suprising change in the schedule. Lets see:

Street Courses: 7
Airport: 1
Road Courses: 3
Large Ovals: 1
Short Ovals: 3

This is almost CART-like...except they need more road courses. Where is Road America and Laguna Seca?

June 3 – Raceway at Belle Isle Park; 2.1-mile street course
Not really....this is sort of a road course. I've been there.

Sept. 2 – Streets of Baltimore; 2-mile street course
May catch this one this time. Problem is I am usually at the beach during Labor Day Weekend.

As you can see no high banked short ovals, hence small number of ovals.

Well...this is where they need to go. It is getting too dangerous to run high performance cars on ovals.

There is strong possibility of adding two more races : Milwaukee (oval) and Fort Lauderdale (street race)

They definatley need to bring back Milwaukee...the oldest run race in the world....

Fort Lauderdale was a decent race. How about Sebring? The other one I am missing is one of my favorites...Burke Lake Airport in Cleveland.

So....mostly road and street courses, new faster car designs, teams able to modify the cars (not spec cars), lots of foriegn stars (Barrichello now).....hmm......so much for the genius of Tony George.

Well a total of 31 full-time drivers. That is very, very good. I wish F1 would go back to full grids.

I count 5 1/2 American Drivers (Andretti, Rahal, Hunter-Reay, Hildebrand, Carpenter (uhhhgg) and 1/2 Kimball). May have missed someone.

I count three females (Mann, Legge, de Silvestro). Will the sport survive without Danica?

This is complete rip-off from TrackForum, as I said before Hairpin and jjunke deserve all credit.

When I first saw the new car I thought 'wow, that's ugly' but after seeing most of the new F1 cars, it doesn't look that bad anymore. :hihi:

I liked the last Champcar car but that probably wouldn't work on ovals, right? Still, I wish they would do something similar.

So the first oval race for the new car will be Indy 500? Interesting...

Not a lot of oval races, so Power for the championship?

So Rubens is the F1 refugee in Indy car and Bordais now returns as a Peugeot refugee. It will be interesting to see how both of them go.

And why has everybody been using the word "interesting" millions of times lately? :argh: :hihi:
