This South American Dakar is so damn easy I am actually thinking about participating next year in a tricycle. I am confident of a podium finish.

Go back to Africa, you stupid A.S.O and quit hiding behind lame excuses like "terrorist threats".

In no way did I expect Sainz to crack like that at the end. Overall, though, I was very impressed with VW's performance and I'm already looking forward to next year.

From my perspective as an American though, somebody needs to tell Miller to get on his horse early so he can actually contend for this thing.

And for heaven's sake, somebody remind Robby Gordon that they actually make four wheel drive off road vehicles that don't take their design cues from skyscrapers.

Well done Nasser, he was on it from day one, great to see him come out on top for once. I didn't see much from Dakar week 2 (holiday is a bitch) so I was surprised to see him take the cake rather than Sainz but it looks like he lost his marbles one time too many in the desert and then mechanical trouble hit him.. better luck next time.

Truck news

Biasion to join De Rooy Iveco Team for Dakar

http://www.marathonrally.com/news/sa_dakar_2012_iveco_and_de_rooy_to_beat_the_blue_kamaz_armada_with_5_trucks.19503.0.html

The rally trucks will be driven by Miki Biasion (winner of Dakar in 1999, with a first place in the truck category and fifth overall)

Hang on, is that correct? I don't recall Biasion winning the truck category on the 99 Dakar? Unless my memory is failing me. :armchair:

Giniel de Villiers will drive a Team Overdrive prepared Toyota Pick Up(I'm guessing a Hilux). This is the same team that entered Nani Roma in last years Dakar when he drove a Nissan Navara pick up.

I think Loprais won that year. Anyhoo, there's another former truck category winner in that team, in the form of Hans Stacey, returning to the race. He won in 2007 driving a MAN.
